There are places where you arrive without really knowing what to expect… and where you leave thinking you'll be back. Gazzosa clearly falls into this category.

A well-hidden Italian restaurant, discovered by chance

We discovered it a few months ago, somewhat by chance, while passing through the Bortier Gallery, Right in the city center. A place we often pass through without necessarily stopping… and yet, that's where this address is hidden (📍 55 Rue de la Madeleine). Just steps from the central train station. You've probably walked past it hundreds of times without ever going in!

The setting is quite intimate, ideal for a meal for 3-4 people or for a romantic dinner. It's also nice if you're looking for a place to eating alone in Brussels There's a spot in the shop window, quick and easy, just a stone's throw from the main square.

A minimalist but rather good menu

We started by sharing a vegetable plateOn paper, nothing exciting… and yet.
Swiss chard, parmesan, walnuts — a rather unexpected combination, almost surprising at first. And ultimately, it works really well in the mouth.

Then, I went on a pasta al ragùHere too, there are no unnecessary surprises. But when it's done well, it's good. And here, that's exactly it. A comforting, effective dish.

And then dessert… clearly the highlight. The three of us shared two desserts:

  • Chocolate dumplings. Honestly, it's amazing. Served with olive oil and coarse salt — surprising on paper, but in the mouth, it really works very well.
  • Un TiramisuPerhaps a little light on mascarpone for my taste, but that remains a matter of preference.

All this was accompanied by wine, which we initially ordered by the glass… before finally giving in and buying the whole bottle. With an aperitif each, the bill came to €158 for three of us, which is reasonable considering the quality and the time we spent together.

One small point to note, though: the service is quite fast-paced. We had a reservation for 18:50 pm, and by 20:30 pm, our table had already been reserved for another group who arrived on time. A little frustrating at the time… but quickly made up for. The owner offered us a complimentary glass of wine to continue our meal on the gallery's terrace. A simple gesture, but one that was genuinely appreciated.

And in the end, that's what makes the difference.

In conclusion; Very simple products but superbly crafted, therefore top-notch, good wine, a fair price in an intimate setting in Brussels, a stone's throw from the Grand-Place.
