Every year, it's the same puzzle: How can I celebrate a friend's birthday without repeating the exact same party as last year? This time, we wanted something really different. Not just a drink, not just a restaurant. A truly unusual experience.
And that's how we ended up meeting one evening… to throw axes, right in the centre of Brussels.
Yes. Real axes. And no, it's not as simple as it looks.
An arrival that immediately sets the mood
As soon as you push open the door of Woodcutter, the decor makes its impression. Smell of cut wood, raw, almost industrial atmosphere, wire-mesh corridors with climbing plants, large wooden targets at the back of the room.
And above all, that very recognizable sound: caseAn axe is planted in the target. Silence. Then laughter.
We all look at each other with the same smile: Okay, we clearly made the right choice..
You don't need to be strong, but you do need a minimum level of concentration.
Before we begin, a coach takes charge of us. Safety rules, explanation of the movement, distance to respect, posture… everything is clear and well explained.
Good news : It's not strength that countsBut the technique. Bad news: It still requires a bit of practice..
The first throws are hesitant. Some bounce. Others fall miserably to the ground. And then, little by little, you start to feel the movement.
Red 6 points. Blue 8 points.
Very quickly, the scores appear and the atmosphere changes.
In the red: 6 point.
In blue: 8 point.
And then we realize one thing: Be careful, planting that axe isn't so easy. 😅
On paper, the movement looks simple. In reality, between the angle, the distance, the release, and that little moment of concentration just before the throw… It's a matter of small things.
When the axe bounces, we laugh.
When it suddenly plants itself in the woods, immediate gratification — and a little ego boost along the way.
The birthday turns into a real competition
Each track has its own scoreboard, and naturally, the spirit of competition takes over.
- Who will touch the center?
- Who's going to completely fail?
- Who's going to speak too soon before launching into the action?
A perfect idea for a birthday
Honestly, we couldn't have dreamed of anything better to celebrate a birthday:
- it is original (nobody expects it),
- it is accessible to everyone,
- We laugh from beginning to end.
- And most importantly, it creates memories that we still talk about afterwards.

We were looking an original activity for a birthday.
We found an ultra fun, unifying and totally different experience.
Barely a foot in the Belgian capital, Pierre launched “InsideBrussels.be” more than 10 years ago, the idea is simple: “What to do? Where to go to eat or have a drink? “.
