Thousands of flowers and tulips 7 kilometers from Brussels
It has been a year since the Château de Grand-Bigard was closed to the public. The workers who worked in this castle located about ten kilometers from Brussels were not idle. For the nineteenth edition of Floralia Brussels, they hit hard with one of the largest flower exhibitions that Belgium has hosted. In the fourteen hectares of the park of the castle of Grand-Bigard in Dilbeek, more than one million flower bulbs have been planted. The most impressive to you will undoubtedly be the tulips. Did you know that these bulbs were all planted by hand? Rather romantic, no?
Planted by the hundreds, these are around 400 in the park. You will find quite a few other varieties of plants. Almost all types and varieties of spring bulb flowers have been planted. So you will find hyacinths, daffodils, narcissus and tulips. You will also notice the presence of many wild flowers: azaleas, blue and yellow grape hyacinths, miniature tulips etc... Maarten Bakker, a descendant of a family of bulb growers in Holland, was entrusted with the production of the Floralia Brussels exhibition. It seems that this one was inspired by the majestic flowerbeds that already exist in the Netherlands. He has also traveled through his country of origin to find the most interesting tulips. Also, he called on producers of Belgian bulbs and plants to create his floral masterpiece.
The history of Chateau de Grand Bigard

This is the case of the castle of Grand-Bigard located only 7 kilometers from Brussels. Its origins date back to the 17th century. It has all the assets of a majestic castle: a wide moat where deep water sleeps, a five-arched bridge, a drawbridge, a red brick on which contrasts the white stone of the entablatures of the high mullioned windows. The castle of Grand-Bigard alone is a remarkable specimen of the Flemish Renaissance.
