Thousands of flowers and tulips 7 kilometers from Brussels
Grand-Bigard Castle had been closed to the public for a year. The workers who toiled at this castle, located about ten kilometers from Brussels, were kept busy. For the nineteenth edition of Floralia Brussels , they pulled out all the stops with one of the largest flower shows Belgium has ever hosted. In the fourteen hectares of the Grand-Bigard Castle park in Dilbeek, more than a million flower bulbs were planted. The most impressive, without a doubt, were the tulips . Did you know that all these bulbs were planted by hand? Quite romantic, isn't it?
Planted by the hundreds , there are around 400 of these in the park. You'll find quite a few other plant varieties. Almost all types and varieties of spring bulbs have been planted. You'll find hyacinths, daffodils, narcissi, and tulips. You'll also notice the presence of numerous wildflowers: azaleas, blue and yellow grape hyacinths, miniature tulips, etc. If you're a plant enthusiast, you can buy tulips, orchids, and certain other flowers or bulbs on your way out of the park. Maarten Bakker, a descendant of a family of bulb growers in Holland, was entrusted with the production of the Floralia Brussels exhibition. The history of Chateau de Grand Bigard
