Free sport in the Parc du Cinquantenaire Brussels: Friskis & Svettis

When you like to play sports and you live in Brussels, it's impossible not to have heard at least once of Friskis & Svettis !

This sports association from Sweden is the largest Swedish sports organization with nearly 500.00 members in Sweden. In Brussels, it has (more modestly) 650 members and their 23 instructors offer various sports activities in several districts of the capital: of the European district, Forest of Soignes via the ULB campus in Etterbeek.

But above all whatwe LOVE with Friskis & Svettis it's their free outdoor lessons during the months of July & August. Tuesdays and Thursdays from 19:30 p.m. to 21:30 p.m. at Parc du Cinquantenaire (on the football field near the military school): we jump, we run, we do push-ups and abs on a background of rhythmic music. All this under the sun to play sports while polishing your tan! And then if we're tired, we can always lie down in the grass while waiting for the next exercise 😉 Click here to view the 2017 training schedule

Every night it's a different instructor and a different class: from the basic level to get back in shape to the intensive level for the most athletic of us. Our favorite of 2016? Tarja's “Flex Interval” session on August 20: 40 minutes of intensive exercises to develop cardio and 20 minutes of stretching to relax.

In addition to these outdoor courses, during the summer Friskis also organizes running sessions, Nordic walking and indoor courses. To see the whole program, it's here:

If you are only passing through Brussels, no problem: you will no doubt be able to continue practicing with Friskis & Svettis when you return home because the association is also present in other European cities : Luxembourg, Paris, London, Aberdeen, Copenhagen, Oslo, etc.

And for the more curious among you who are wondering where this curious name "Friskis & Svettis" comes from, know that it comes from the Swedish "Frisk" which means " in bonne santé » and « Svettig » which means « in sweat ».

Get your sneakers on and see you soon at the Cinquantenaire!
