Many of my friends were talking about it, but I hadn't used it yet. Usually, I travel by public transport. It was the STIB strike…. Which means less choice for go to Zaventem airport to fly for my trip. I can't miss my flight. The taxis were going to be quite busy and I was a bit put off by my last trip… I booked a taxi to go to the airport. The same evening my neighbors on the first floor were robbed… Hazard or coincidence, so I decided to test Uber.

The first formalities of downloading the Uber App and signing up is quite simple vi have my mobile. Quick, I see my credit card number is already in my Uber Brussels account – I have already ordered food on UberEats Brussels. Apparently you can't pay in cash. Just Bancontact/mastercard/Paypal. It's not worse!

Bingo!  I also found an UberBrussels promocode: “ LPWGG« . I will apparently benefit from a 5 euro reduction on my first race in Brussels.

I indicate my position in the street as well as the destination: Brussels Airport Zaventem. I see directly that three options are available to me: UberX, UberBlack and UberVan. I choose the first one which corresponds to a normal car. “Uber Black” Brussels is apparently more Business and UberVan is for groups traveling to Brussels.

Within moments, I see my driver's name and photo, his car license plate. It's quite well done, I see that in 3 minutes he will be there and the trip should cost me 20 euros. It's not so bad! Once on the sidewalk, I tell myself that it's pretty good! It is raining. If I had to go to the subway with my suitcase, I would arrive at the door of the plane soaked like a duck.

Direction Zaventem Airport. He already knows where I'm going. I can follow the journey in the application on Waze. It's practical, at least I'm not being dragged along a longer path. The time to get to know the driver and talk about vacation we are already arriving at the airport. It's great, thanks to Uber he created his own company! Apparently it works quite well.

Just before arriving he explains to me that the app will ask us to give each other a rating. " This is On 5 5 " I answer him. It therefore seems that the Uber Brussels system therefore invites people to be friendly, for lack of losing points.

It's convenient, no cash payment. Once arrived, I receive an email from Uber with my bill. Thanks to my discount promocode, I paid only 15 euros, and I arrived in 15 minutes. With the STIB it takes 45 minutes from my place, I have to change metro and bus several times.

In short, it's practical if the bus doesn't pass nearby, if you're loaded, or if you want to get home quickly.

If you also want to test, this promocode which gives 5euros reduction must still work: LPWGG

Uber banned in Brussels? Almost at the end?

In January 2019, the Belgian courts clarified a decision that dated from September 2015. According to this ban, Uber could no longer operate in Brussels. However, since that time, Uber considered that the distinction between the UberPop and UberX services were not clear and therefore announced that it would continue its activity in Brussels.

The new decision of the court, does not rejoice the revelers. As of now, the transport service Uber has just been deemed illegal in Brussels. Uber is not dead in Brussels, however. Indeed, drivers who have a taxi license are well qualified to make Uber trips. Individuals can no longer become drivers.
