Brussels fireworks canceled or not? For two days, the Mayor of Brussels Yvan Mayeur worked on the question of the fireworks of December 31. Will the fireworks take place or will it simply be cancelled?

Based on the analysis carried out in Brussels by OCAM (the coordinating body for the analysis of the threat), the decision fell on the evening of Wednesday December 30. New Year's Eve fireworks in Brussels will be canceled et will not take place on December 31, 2015 as planned. Ocam ruled that a terrorist threat similar to the Paris attacks of November 13, 2015 targeted police stations in Brussels and the Grand-Place in Brussels.

In order to prevent large gatherings of people, the mayor has therefore decided that this year the fireworks, new year's ball, as well as the concerts would be canceled. As a reminder, around 100.000 people were expected around Place de Brouckère for the New Year.

This decision to cancel a fireworks display on December 31 is not a first in Brussels. In 2007, the former mayor of Brussels also made the decision to cancel the New Year's fireworks display in the face of a terrorist threat targeting Brussels.
