A march against fear and terrorism in Brussels

Near'a month after thethe bloody attacks in Brussels which left 32 dead and several hundred injured, 150 Belgian organizations came together to marching together against fear and terrorism in Brussels. The idea had already been launched shortly after the attacks in Brussels, but for security reasons the march against fear had been cancelled. The idea of the walk is tosend a strong and clear democratic message in the face of the terrorist threat which weighs on the city of Brussels.

This Sunday, April 17, 2016, the start of the march has been launched. At 14 p.m., 2 processions have launched. A first from the Brussels North station, as well as a second launched from the heart of Molenbeek (the parvis of Saint John the Baptist). These two places were not chosen at random but because of their symbolism which bears witness to the multiculturalism and openness spirit of Brussels. At the head of the procession, we find the survivors as well as the families of the victims of the attacks in Brussels. Then, the representatives of the different religious communities as well as the sympathizers mingle. Together, the organizations hope to achieve more than 15.000 participants.

Knowing that the threat to Brussels is still level 3 ("Possible and probable terrorist threat"), the organizers of the march against fear do not hide their concern. However, they remain confident and serene knowing that the police are overseeing the demonstration. The instructions are clear. No bag will be tolerated and each participant must be in possession of his identity papers. The demonstrators taking part in this march against fear therefore wear flowers, but also posters mentioning " Daeesh, get out. Belgium is not yours.«
