Belgomarkt Saint-Gilles: a bulk and 100% Belgian supermarket in Brussels
Two years after crisscrossing Belgium to meet local producers, Mélanie, Trésor, and Stéphanie embarked on their adventure. Their idea: to create an alternative to traditional supermarkets. However, this isn't just any kind of supermarket. Their goal is to make consuming responsible and healthy products through the local economy much more accessible.
One thing leading to another, the "crowfunding belgomarkt" project (which allowed them to finance the cash registers, fridge and materials needed to build the shelves) turned into a real idea of a supermarket: “Belgomarket”.
Through this project, Belgomarkt was also able to confirm that the people of Brussels wanted to find a solution to consume responsibly and locally.
Given the success of its fundraising efforts, the Belgomarkt project has moved on to the next stage: opening its 100% Belgian supermarket in Brussels . The location has already been secured. The supermarket will have a surface area of 2,500 square meters. Belgomarkt will open its doors between Saint-Gilles and Ixelles in the Matongé/Saint-Boniface district (Rue de Dublin). Construction began in mid-February and is expected to last approximately two months.
