Brussels attacks Zaventem airport and Metro Malbeek 2016

22 March 2016 – Brussels is in mourning. A few days after the arrest of Salah Abdeslam . Around eight o'clock in the morning, in the middle of the rush hour, two bombs resound in the Brussels airport lobby Zaventem. At present, we are talking about a suicide attack but it would still be too early to confirm. Causing more than 10 deaths and more than a hundred injured, this tragedy plunges Brussels into turmoil.

The tragedy of March 22 in Brussels does not stop there. HAS 9:30 p.m. in the heart of the European district of the Belgian capital, the cars see smoke coming out of the mouths of the metro. We learn little time after the news – the horror –; the resort Malbeek has just been affected by an explosive attack carried out in the metro train and increase the balance sheet. The wounded are pouring in from everywhere. In order to set up an adequate structure, the Mash plan (Hospital Services Alert) has been triggered. Hospitals are quick to make a general appeal to the blood donation. Quickly, the united Belgian population comes running and responds to the demand.

A little later in the day, the Belgian deminers discovered a new explosive device at Zaventem airport and render it harmless by deminers.

Since then, searches have been carried out as quickly as possible to advance the investigation. In the municipality of Schaerbeek, the police got their hands on chemicals, nails and an explosive device.

At the end of the day, it's chaos: Montgomery tunnel in the direction of the closed center, metro and bus stopped, departing planes cancelled, airport closed until Thursday at least. According to some media, the royal palace would also have been evacuated. The police advise to stay at home.

By identifying, the airport videotapes, the police notice three suspicious people: they wear a single glove – probably concealing a detonator. Two of these people are said to have exploded with their bombs, the third is actively sought by the police.

A telephone number is open for the victims and their relatives: The number 1771 is active, but especially for the victims and loved ones. Do not call unless strictly necessary.
