Carolus V Ommegang Festival in Brussels

The ommegang commemorates a true story nearly 500 years old. Charles V arrives in Brussels for the Ommegang! The ommegang commemorates the prestigious entrance reserved for the Emperor Charles V in 1549. He came to present his son, the future Philip II, to our regions.
This is a unmissable event not to be missed. The Ommegang will take place in the prestigious setting of the Grand Place in Brussels as well as in the Royal Park.

For the festivities, no less than 1400 extras will transport you for a moment to the age of the Renaissance. The Ommegang opens the doors to the Brussels folklore, in a magical environment surrounded by breathtaking animations. To push the magic to the extreme, a sound and lights will be directed by the famous Giles Daoust.

At 20:40 p.m., the pre-procession of the Ommegang will depart from the Royal Park. Then, he will pass by the Place des Palais, the Rue Royale, the Place Royale, the Rue de la Régence and the rue Bodenbroek to join the groups of archers, crossbowmen and fencers at the Sablon.

It is at 20:50 p.m., from Sablon, that the historical procession formed will start. It will then pass through the following streets: Rue Lebeau, Place de la Justice, Rue de l'Hôpital, Place Saint-Jean, Rue Duquesnoy, Rue Infante Isabelle, Rue Marché aux Herbes, Rue de Tabora, Rue du Midi, Rue des Sparrows , Rue de l'Etuve, Rue Charles-Buls, Grand Place in Brussels.

DFor its part, Charles V's carriage will leave Place Royale at 20:15 p.m., it will pass by rue de la Régence then rue des Sablons. After passing through the Church of Notre-Dame du Sablon, he will continue on his way ahead of the procession.

Ommegang Markets 2016

In addition to the Parc Royal site, 2 medieval markets will be open to the public on Place Agora and behind the Brussels Stock Exchange.
