Villo Bruxelles: yellow bikes to share

Have you seen these yellow bikes with a gray frame who roam the streets of Brussels day and night? Not sure how it works or how much it costs? This Vilo article is for you!

Villo is the contraction of " City " and " Velo“. Villo was created in 2009, following an initiative by the City of Brussels and the advertising company JC Decaux. If all goes as planned, Brussels should count almost 5.000 Villos in no less than 19 municipalities shortly.

The concept is quite simple. Villo is an excellent alternative to taxis or public transport for short distance travel. Villo is also an air quality benefit and has saved several thousand tons of CO2!

The principle is simple, 5000 Villos distributed in almost 400 resorts await you ready to explore the streets and cycle paths of the capital.

To use a Villo, you must either have an annual subscription (about 35 euros per year), or take out a short-term subscription (1 week +-8euros, one day +- 1,60euro).

In the case of a short-term rental, you will need a bank card on which 150 euros will be blocked as a guarantee, until the Villo is returned. If you have a subscription, you will receive a magnetized card that you just have to pass over the terminal to unlock the precious Villo.

Whatever your subscription mode, the Villo is paid for by the duration of use. The first half hour is free.
Then the price evolved from 0,50 euros to 2 euros per time slot.

The kilometers traveled do not count, you can also return the villo to the Villo terminal of your choice.

Last advice before hitting the road, absolutely avoid riding on a Tram rail. these constitute a danger for cyclists because they are particularly slippery!

More info and map of the Villos on the official Villos website.
