How to do a free covid-19 test in Brussels ?

Good news, if you are short on budget or subject to frequent testing, know that in Brussels, the PCR test is reimbursed by INAMI (free). For the PRC test to be reimbursed, several conditions must be met.

  • Being registered with a Belgian health insurance fund is an essential condition
  • Have received an SMS with an activation code (CTPC)
    • Either if you have been contacted by a contact tracing investigator (on day 7 from day of high risk contact)
    • Either if you have received a reference letter for a COVID-19 test from your school.
    • Either if you come back from a red zone (to have you tested on the 1st and 7th day after your return to Belgium)
      • You will get an activation code for these two tests. You must remain in quarantine until you know the result of the second test.
    • Is a doctor has prescribed a test for you.

COVID PCR tests for traveling from Brussels

In case you wish to travel abroad, you will need to be in possession of a PCR test to your European travel certificate. 

In this case, the PCR test is not free. It will therefore not be reimbursed by your health insurance. In case of doubt, you can find on Belgian diplomacy website, the conditions that apply to your country of destination. You can get tested at one of the centers listed below. The test must be purchased and will cost around 41 euros per person.

Be aware that it will not be possible for you to travel with a negative PCR test reimbursed by the health insurance fund! You must therefore carry out your test in due form. Otherwise, you risk staying at Zaventem.

Please note:

  • Paid tests can be carried out in all our test centers.

What are the centers of COVID test open on Sundays in Brussels?

If you have to get tested against covid on the weekend? Be aware that there are test centers which are open in Brussels on Sundays. Please always check the latest information on the official covid test website. When writing our article, the hours were as follows:

  • Pacheco Sunday, 9:45 a.m.-17:30 p.m.
  • Merode Sunday, 9:00 a.m.-17:00 p.m.
  • Albert Sunday, 9:00 a.m.-17:00 p.m.

What are the Covid-19 tests for children in Brussels ?

First knowledge about the covid test for children: you must make an appointment in the name of the child! It cannot be under your name. You can book at all the centers mentioned above, except the Heysel Test Centre. The latter does not have the appropriate infrastructure to test children under 3 years old.

The code consists of 16 numbers & letters and will allow you to leave Belgium to go on vacation.
