What can be found in the Circularium?

Circularium was originally an industrial area of over 20.000m2. Today, this building located on the Chaussée de Mons has become a major center for local innovation and circular production dedicated to the city. In this store nothing is for sale... But still, you can get lots of stuff there. You will find there books, clothes, toys, full decoration, of vinyls, full dishes and even appliances. in short, a real cave of Alibaba. No credit card needed. You just have to help yourself. Here we pay with a writing on a post-it that says just thank you.

How does the free shop in Anderlecht work?

If everything is free, you are probably wondering where is the scam? Know that there is none. Every product you find at the Free Store has been donated by generous donors. So there are plenty of people who, instead of throwing something that still works in the container park, brought it to the Circularium. We all have objects in our cupboards that we never use... Like for example a sewing machine, a lemon squeezer, a sweater that is too small... Instead of throwing it away to destroy it, we might as well give it to those to whom it will be fun.

So here is one of the first places in Brussels, where we see a circular economy of this magnitude.

The story of the free store?

This project saw the light thanks to Léo Fernandez. A student in tourism & events. For his internship, he had an idea in mind user-friendly, but where overconsumption would have no place…. Difficult with the Covid, to provide something user-friendly. Conversely, people stayed at home and saw no one. Except when they went shopping. So he had the idea of creating un store where people could meet without having to spend money. Léo therefore approached an association whose project was the circular and short circuit: Circularium. He then went on a quest to find objects to put on the shelves of the free store via his as a group, family… and voila. Attention, the store is a pop-up store and will close its doors on June 26, Leo's internship end date.
